If you really are serious in wanting to become a guitar genius, or a guitar god then the secret to help get you there faster is practice.

One main problem though, not all have the patience to really practice hard and when they do, they aren’t doing it right because they either lack focus, or they aren’t putting their mind and heart to it. Practicing the guitar isn’t really that fun at all, if you ask me. That’s really one big reason for not being able to reach our goals fast enough, more than what we ever dream it could be.

So I’ve come with these important tips so that you can really get the most out of your practice time, no matter how teeny tiny it is.

1. Consistency is the key. Make practicing the guitar a routine if you want to master this in no time. If you just sit and wait there until you have the free time to practice, mastering the guitar will be a thing of the past in no time. What you could do is to set aside 10 to 15 minutes every single day just to practice guitar. You have to really be disciplined to follow your designated time and you will soon realize that this will become a very good habit. What I personally recommend is early morning, or in the evening, like before going to bed. That was my routine when I was starting out – and I tell you what, it really worked.

2. Focus. Focus. Focus. Once you have set aside a time to practice, make sure you have undivided attention when you do. Distractions not only prolong the learning process, but it really is a big waste of time. Spending 5 minutes of seriously focusing on practicing the guitar is a whole lot better than an hour of just “playing around” the guitar while watching TV or doing chit chat with friends. Focus and give your full attention to it.

3. Create a “practice space”. A small, private space somewhere around your room will do. It should be nothing fancy, just a simple, private nook where you could prop up yourself and your guitar and start practicing. A simple, quiet place, away from other distractions like the computer, the TV and the fridge (just kidding) will definitely do.

4. Make your practice routine as easy as possible. Making things as easy as possible will really help you out. Your practice space should be very conducive for learning. One thing that is really effective in making it really easy to practice is to forget the guitar case! Leave your guitar in the guitar stand in your practice space and your materials open so that every time you pass by, you’ll be surprised how really effortless it is to practice. It will even seem that guitar will “call” you. Trust me, this really works.

5. Keep your motivations coming. If gasoline is what makes engines do their job, then motivation is your gasoline to completing your goals. Always think of the things that makes you want to play the guitar in the first place. Things are a lot easier and you learn faster if you really like what you are doing and if you have goals to achieve in mind.

So there you have it! Those simple, but very effective tips will really help a lot in making the most of your practice time. Don’t forget, enjoy what you are doing!

Learning and mastering something that you do not know how to do before is very rewarding especially if the reward comes in the form of beautiful music. An example of a very rewarding experience is playing the guitar. Or most music fans, hearing your favorite artists play makes you feel so good. You are filled with a certain sense of wonder, awe and fulfillment every time you hear you favorite music play, right? Now, to put such feelings into something action-oriented: what if you get the chance to share that same feeling to other people by playing for them?

It’s not just the music

For those who are serious about this, playing the guitar is not just playing some chords or scales or making music. Passionate guitarists do not merely make music, they touch people’s hearts. Try to think of some of the greatest guitarists ever. Take for example, Jimi Hendrix. There are people who were fortunate to have the opportunity to see him perform live, but the rest of us have to be contented watching his performances on videos. As you listen to him play, take the time to also watch him closely the joy in his face clearly shows how much he loved what he was doing. Because of his passion, he was able to inspire a whole new generation of guitarists and musicians through his music.

Play with your heart and not just your hands

For your information, playing the guitar is not just about skill and technique. Yes, you can be awesome playing those chords or memorizing those scales in detail but it will still be obvious if your heart is not in it. Your music will not be complete as it lacks that indescribable punch uniquely found on a truly passionate musician’s music. Playing with your heart results to a kind of music filled with depth and character and these things make the music seemed so alive for many people. Merely having the skill, technique, and talent will not get you that far. If you are only playing music for the sake of music alone, it will be very obvious. A guitar player who plays his guitar without his/her heart in it usually ends up playing cold and distant music which the listener will not be able to relate to. A guitarist playing with his/her heart will be able to make it sound alive and touch the listeners’ hearts.

Be dedicated

But then again, having the passion alone is not enough to make someone exceptional at playing the guitar. If you want to be really good guitar player, you have to have passion coupled with dedication. You can be really be passionate with playing the guitar and making music but it will still not work out of you do not practice regularly. Being just passionate will not help you get better. You also have to work really hard for you to become good and eventually, better with what you are doing. If you really do intend to master guitar playing, then you have to be dedicated enough to spend regular hours practicing and commit yourself to learning no matter how tiresome it seems. The moment that you give up and walk away every time a challenge comes your way, you end up in the losing end. In fact, it is when things get tougher that you must not quit. Just imagine that those challenges are merely temporary roadblocks on your way to success. The lessons that you learned during the most difficult times are the most rewarding lessons of all. Every time you remember how hard it was for you to learn, that one particular lesson will always be etched in your mind, and the same thing applies to playing the guitar.

The only time that playing the guitar will become such a rewarding experience is if you commit yourself to it no matter what obstacles come your way. Did you think that those guitarists that we all looked up to and idolized started playing the guitar the way they do now? Of course not! They went through everything you are going through right now The started from scratch and worked their way up. That is a good thing to remember every time you feel frustratingly low. And don not forget that guitar playing should always be fun! So go ahead and enjoy the experience!

At one point in their lives, people who wanted to become rock stars wanted learn how to play electric guitar. Even if electric guitars can also be used in other musical genres, many people generally associate the electric guitar with rock music. Because of such thinking, many people have, even once in their lifetime, dreamt of becoming a rock star especially those who spent most of their young days listening to rock n’ roll.

Of course, there could be no way that you get to be a rock star and not know how to play an instrument. Many aspiring rock musicians, band members, and artist choose the electric guitar as their instrument. For one thing, an electric guitar is easier to carry around as it is more portable and handy compared to drums and keyboards. And since it is easier to carry around, then you have the choice to always bring it with you wherever you may go. This advantage has attracted a lot of people to start learning how to play electric guitar.

The beginning

Once you have decided to start to learn how to play electric guitar, you have to take into consideration a number of things. First of all, purchase a high-quality guitar. Avoid buying a guitar that you know is low-quality. At the onset, you may think that you have save yourself a lot of money by doing so but you have to remember that low-quality electric guitars will later on give you headaches and money problems for its constant repairs. If you are a tight on budget, consider buying a second hand guitar. You could either ask your guitarist friends or go directly to the music stores. Most of the time, you get to find an awesome second hand guitar in the used section of music stores. Much better is that you will also get to find awesome deals on such electric guitars that even came from trusted brands. Your friends might be able to help you Ask them if there is someone who is considering an instrument upgrade and because if someone does, then maybe he/she can sell his/her old guitar to you. You have to remember though, when buying a second hand guitar you have to check out first if it still works properly.

Lesson proper

Your lessons on how to play electric guitar can now officially begin once you get your hands in your guitar. You have many options on how to learn and the best part is you get to choose which option is the best for you. It may be a bit pricey but getting a private tutor is still one of the best ways to learn. A tutor can personally guide you in your lessons; hence, you learn faster this way instead of frustrating yourself trying to learn things by yourself. Another option that you can take is to ask a more experienced musician friend to teach you. You get to save since a friend will not charge you with a fee and both of you will benefit from such learning experience since you friend gets a chance to review the basics while you learn at the same time.

Another option is to just self-study. Some people prefer this way of learning as they learn better on their own pace, on their own time, on their own time, and without anyone constantly telling them how they should do it. The internet, videos and books are good sources of learning materials.

Don’t disregard the fundamentals

Chances are you may get so wrapped with the idea of becoming a rock star that you forgot that playing the electric guitar is not as easy as you think. You have to learn the ropes and master the basics: improve your fingers’ nimbleness by learning finger exercises; strengthen your understanding of music by learning some musical theories; and most especially focus on the nitty-gritty of notes, sca

As a newbie in guitar playing, you are probably hyped up with excitement as you begin your beginner guitar lessons. Beginners are usually full of excitement and enthusiasm when learning new things and this is a great advantage because this makes them easy to teach. This excitement can help keep a new learner motivated and more often than not, this pushes a person to keep on striving to learn despite the obstacles that come his/her way.

Basic Ideas

Beginner guitar lessons provide you with the basic lessons that will help you learn play the guitar well. At one point or another, you may find that some things such as proper posture, proper way of holding your guitar, proper hand and finger positions, and finger exercises are boring and unnecessary. Things like these may be small and irrelevant but they are important. There are many guitar players who do not mind these things resulting to sloppy playing habits that are difficult to change.

It is much better that things be learned right from the very beginning rather than to worked on correcting it later on. Having the discipline to work on proper posture, correct hand and finger positioning, and regularly exercising your hands and fingers (this may seemed irrelevant but it will improve your fingers’ dexterity and ability to accurately move fast over the guitar fingerboard) will greatly help you later on especially once you start struggling with the more challenging lessons. As long as you have the discipline for little things like these, then you will have no problems facing the more challenging parts as you go along.

Be motivated

There will be times that as you go along your beginner guitar lessons you will come across extremely challenging lessons. As already stated earlier, there are many guitar players who starts out brimming with enthusiasm and energy and later on lose the drive to go on once things do not turn out the way they expected. There are some lessons that are challenging enough to tempt you to just give up especially if you find it really difficult to master them.

The moment you get discouraged, always remember the reason why you wanted to learn the guitar in the first place. You wanted to learn how to play and remember that learning something new is neither easy nor it is smooth sailing. You have to always remind yourself that you will have to overcome the obstacles that come your way in order for you to get better.

Be disciplined

We have already mentioned how vital discipline is even in small things like these. In the onset of your beginner guitar lessons, discipline is most likely what will push you forward. Simply put, discipline helps you keep your sights on your goal and will help you do everything necessary for you to achieve that goal.

Because you are aiming to learn how to play the guitar well, part of the discipline is to regularly study, review, and practice. You should not limit your lessons to the time you spend with your teacher, read guidebooks and watch instructional videos. You have to be diligent when practicing. Discipline simply means that you spend a particular time once a day, every day to practice your guitar with what you have learned so far, even during those days that you don’t feel like picking your guitar up. This is basically the only way to improve your guitar playing skills.

Goal Setting

Where do you want to place your focus during your beginner guitar lessons? True, the ultimate goal for everyone is to become good guitar player. But then again, it is a big, sweeping goal that chances are you might lose track as there are a countless ways to reach that goal. The best thing to do is to break down this goal into smaller goals. What are things that you must necessarily do and learn to improve? Make a list. For instance, you include the following in your list: Learn chords, chord changes and progressions, and play some simple sings. These things on your lists can compromised the “bite-sized” goals within your ultimate goal as all of these things will help you become a better guitar player.

As an example, you can start your beginner guitar lessons this month by learning the chords. You can set a goal that in a month’s time, you should have already learn and master the basic open chords. Once you already did, move on to the next goal and work on it. Setting your goals will help you put things in the proper perspective.

All of these are just reminders that are worth keeping in mind as you begin learning the guitar. We absolutely wish for you to have fun as you go along!

Some older people who prefer to keep on learning new things are teased and made fun of by people their age who think that activities like adult guitar lessons can only be learned by younger people as they believe that learning such will be harder for older people.

You will find that taking adult guitar lessons can both be fun and fulfilling especially if learning how to play the guitar has always been your dream in the past that you were not able to act on because of lack of time, means, or opportunities. You should not let what other people say to stop you from realizing your dream of being a guitar player.

Despite the fact that most music programs targets a younger market (as easily determined by the advertising songs and artists not being able to recognize the song and artist is an indication that the program is for a younger age group), there are still many programs available for those who wish to take adult guitar lessons.

One popular way used when trying to learn adult guitar lessons is to employ the services of a private teacher. If you can afford such expenses, hiring a private tutor to personally teach you gains you a lot of advantages. In addition to, a private tutor can formulate a course that best fits with your learning capability, in other words, he can coach you in the way that you learn best. Then again, each private teacher has his own way of doing things, so you should be able to hire someone who will be comfortable with.

If there are music schools in your area that offer adult guitar lessons, then you might consider enrolling in a music class, instead of hiring a private teacher. Learning in an environment filled with aspiring guitarist like you can bring you a lot of motivation and inspiration.

Another possible option is to get those book or video self-study adult guitar lessons. This will work best if you are able to study on your own and at the same time able to keep yourself motivated. With the many learning materials teeming in the market today, you should be take the time to find something appropriate for more mature and older learners.

These self-study guitar courses gave birth to the many online courses that are now popping all over the internet. These days, people are able to study anything just by accessing the internet and these include learning how to play the guitar. There are an increasing number of people who prefer to use the internet as means of education as they find it cheap and convenient in their quest to expand their knowledge. Pay a visit to sites like http://www.beginnerguitaristacademy.com and find out for yourself how you will learn.

The above mentioned are just some of the ways you can use if you seriously want to learn how to play the guitar despite the fact that you are past the age that most people start learning to do so. There is no need to be embarrassed with how old you are! As a matter of fact, you should be proud of yourself as you did not let your age hinder you from learning something new. You have only proven that people should not stop thirsting for knowledge no matter how old we get. So go on and take those adult guitar lessons and start rocking!

Guitar fingering is a basic and important matter that must be considered when playing acoustic guitar chords. Failing to focus on guitar fingering could turn a simple, strain free set of finger placements into a something dreadful and frustrating.

Some tips that could help take the strain off your fingers when playing acoustic guitar chords are as follows:

1. Most beginners use their thumbs to take hold of the low E string when playing the G major chord. This is wrong. The general rule in playing guitar chords is not to use the thumb, although there are a few instances that require the use of the left thumb to press down on a bass string.

2. Newbie guitar players have the misconception that they should refrain from using their pinkie fingers. This is not the case as the pinkie finger plays a vital role in your quest to learn the chords. There is a reason why various chord positions exist and that is because these variations help make chord switching easier and quicker. With the use of improper fingering techniques, you are actually denying yourself the capability to play the maximum number of chords that you can.

3. Do not stop practicing. The more frequent you play, the more your fingers will get used to guitar fingering. Developing your finger strength is important and can be done by performing in some finger exercises such as finger stretching and weights. In a matter of time, you will see that it is much easier to switch chords when your finger strength is well-developed.

4. Constant practice is important and highly recommended but do not try to learn all of the guitar chords at once. There is not much difference with finger strengthening and body strengthening. Pushing yourself to do everything at once could injure or strain your fingers more. Take it slowly and constantly and do not pressure yourself that much.

Remember that even if you are following these tips, experiencing finger pain is something that you should see coming when you keep practicing and learning various guitar-playing techniques. It is normal part of learning how to play guitar chords. It may sound weird, but having calluses is one of the best ways to dull the pain on your fingers. A popular saying did say “no pain, no gain”. The moment you begin playing acoustic guitar chords flawlessly, you will realize that all the efforts you put in during practice is all worth it.
